Brief History of Bando:

In 1933, the British controlled Gurkha Rifles attempted to restore traditional Burmese fighting systems. Nine Gurkha officers combined their knowledge of the Burmese arts to form the Military Athletic Club. These nine Gurkha officers were recruited into the British army from their home countries of India, Tibet, China, Nepal and Burma. They brought with them the martial knowledge and tactical fighting skills specific to their home countries. They put their knowledge together to develop a practical combat system for individual and team use as it relates to the harsh realities of jungle warfare. The result was called Bando.
