Expandable Baton:
At Bando Systems, we are certified police expandable baton instructors through ASP© and Manadonock©. Through our years of training in the Bando System, we have developed expert knowledge and ability with the expandable baton. There are several easy, efficient and effective techniques we have identified that would enable public safety officers to better utilize their expandable batons. Bando Systems has shaped these specific expandable baton techniques for use in the following applications:
- Pressure-point (pain compliance techniques)
- Striking techniques (non-traditional)
- Blocking techniques (non-traditional)
- Grappling techniques
- P.A.C.S applications
The days of officers throwing their expandable batons away during a physical struggle may be over. This specialized training will give the public safety officer more options to keep themselves, fellow officers and the suspect safe during a physical apprehension. Bando Systems is the only defensive tactics program of which we are aware that offers specialized expandable baton training that stretches way beyond traditional techniques.
Pocket Knives and Knife Defense:
Almost every public safety officer carries a pocket knife. Some knives are serrated, some are curved down or up, some are automatic, but most are designed so that the officer can open the blade with one hand. Why do officers carry them? The traditional BS answer we normally hear is, "I carry this knife just in case I need to cut a seatbelt." Maybe this answer is genuine for some officers. Maybe this answer is just one of the reasons, but it is certainly not the primary reason for most. We at Bando Systems will tell you without hesitation why we carry pocket knives. We carry them, because they are the best back-up weapon you can possess. Knives never:
- Jam
- Miss the target
- Run out of bullets
- Kill innocent bystanders
Department concerns and use of force issues are also addressed in this training program. Discussions of knife use by public safety officers are presented, but these offensive (counter attack) knife techniques are not taught in the basic instructor class.
